Bukit Kunong Hike

The Bukit Kunong is located at Kuala Kubu Bahru and the hike requires a permit and guide (MGP). The trail head for Bukit Kunong is the same trailhead at Kg. Pertak just like Bukit Kutu, Gunung Rajah and Bukit Hulu Bakau. The beginning trail features the same as Bukit Kutu but later, it changes to steep inclines from CP1 to CP2, making it essential to have an experienced guide to navigate the terrain safely. Starting from the first bridge, you'll trek through the jungle until you reach the campsite. This section of the trail runs parallel to the river, and the terrain can be damp, muddy, and waterlogged in certain areas. Be prepared for an overgrown path, which may also be infested with leeches.
After passing the abandoned rubber tree plantation, the trail gradually becomes steeper. You'll need to ascend several big slopes, aided by newly installed ropes until you reach the durian orchard area. From here, the trail continues to get steeper. At CP1, you'll come across a prominent "Keruing" tree, marking your progress. Moving from CP1 to CP2, you'll pass through more bamboo forests. The trail narrows and steepens in parts. From CP2 to CP3, you'll be treated to glimpses of the Selangor dam. The ascents in this section are shorter and less steep. As you reach CP3, the gradient eases, and the jungle becomes more relaxed and brighter, with more dwarf trees. Along the ridge's final stretch, the path ascends gradually, weaving through thick bushes before finally reaching the trig station. Keep an eye out for wildlife during the hike, as Bukit Kunong is known for sightings of siamang monkeys, lizards, snakes, and the Great Argus bird.
